Our Commitment to Your Privacy
It is the policy of Jamaica National Overseas (USA) Inc. (JNO) and all its affiliates and subsidiaries, to respect the privacy of persons seeking information or services from us. We value your relationship, and we know that respect for your privacy is the very foundation of that relationship. Since our company was founded in 1990, we have built a reputation based on trust and advances in technology have made safeguarding private information all the more important. Our employees have been directed to abide by our comprehensive Customer Privacy Policy.

 

JNO has never sold customer lists to outside companies, and has no plans to share information with any company outside of our immediate family of companies except as otherwise permitted by law. This Customer Privacy Policy is available to inform you about our collection and use of personal information so that you can make informed choices about how your own information is collected and used. 

 

Information We Collect
We collect non-public personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms including name, address, telephone number, and email address.  JNO may also collect identification numbers such as social security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, unexpired drivers license numbers, unexpired passport numbers. 
  • Information about your transactions with us or our affiliates and agents, including email address and delivery address of the recipient of your transfer, the amount of the transaction and specific delivery information. This information is required for us to process transactions.
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.
  • Information collected on our website.  This information may include your name, e-mail address, home address, information related to your bank account and routing number, credit card or debit card number, the card's expiration date, and other information that may be required to ensure the security of your funds. Once you register with us and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us. This information helps us provide you services, diagnose any technical problem that may arise and allows us to contact you if necessary. This information also allows us to protect our customers against credit card, debit card or bank account fraud.
  • Information collected from banks and transaction processors when processing transactions, including authorization and settlement information. This information is required to verify card and/or account ownership, funds availability and confirmation of transactions.
  • Information automatically received and recorded from your browser when you access our services including your IP address and cookie information. JNO may set and access cookies on your computer. A cookie is a small text file placed on your computer’s hard drive by a web server and which is acknowledged by your web browser.  Although cookies help us to identify you and potentially speed up your transaction, you may of course choose to delete these cookies from our computer if you wish. We use cookies for a variety of purposes including but not limited to the following:
    • This information is used to provide the services that you request and/or to diagnose any technical problems that may be encountered;
    • To allow you to change pages during your visit to our website without having to repeatedly change password;
    • To track activity on our website; and
    • To send advertisements to you on this and other websites.

 

How We Use Your Information to Your Benefit
We do not disclose any non-public personal information about our customers or former customers to anyone, except as permitted by law. We use this information to provide you with superior service and value, that can save you time because you are not continually supplying the same information when using our services. We believe that information used responsibly benefits consumers and the economy, whether it is information we house on behalf of consumers conducting transactions or information we collect on behalf of our business clients. For example, we use consumer information every day to ensure fast and accurate processing of hundreds of thousands of money transfers. In addition JNO strives to better serve our customers by offering goods and services that we believe fit their needs and interests. When identifying an opportunity, JNO may use consumer information it has collected in an effort to identify consumers who may be interested in that opportunity.

 

Disclosure of Information
JNO does not sell the information mentioned above to outside companies, neither do we disclose customer information to third parties without first giving customers an opportunity to opt-out of certain kinds of disclosures. There are some disclosures to third parties that are not subject to the opt-out, such as disclosures necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction requested by you, to companies that perform services for us or to prevent fraud.

 

JNO may disclose customer information to companies that, like JNO, are part of the Jamaica National Building Society corporate family. JNO is required to comply with various laws governing consumer information. This includes, for example, an obligation to report suspicious activity involving consumer transactions. Another example includes the requirement to permit access by regulators to certain types of information in the course of routine examinations. It is the expressed policy of JNO to abide by the laws and regulations governing its operations and we will report and allow access to consumer information only within the parameters set by the laws and regulations.

 

JNO Customer Privacy Principles
JNO restricts access to personal information about you to our employees who need access to your information is on in order to perform their job. For example, a teller in our money transfer division does not have access to personal information on your mortgage loan. An employee in our mortgage servicing operations does not have access to your money transfer or bill payment transactions. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your personal information. These may include encryption, physical access security and other appropriate technology.   JNO will continue to update these safeguards as technology changes occur. 

 

In recognition of the high level of trust and confidence our customers have with JNO, the following customer privacy principles have been adopted as a guide for our officers and employees/agents to follow in the use of customer information.

  • We will limit the collection and use of customer information to the minimum necessary to offer and deliver the products and services that we provide.We will restrict access to customer information to authorized employees.
  • We will strive to maintain customer information as accurate, current and complete as possible.
  • We will be responsive to customers’ requests to correct errors.
  • We will establish safeguard standards for the security and confidentiality of customer information.
  • We will not reveal specific information about customer accounts/transactions or other personally identifiable data to unaffiliated third parties, unless: (1) the information is provided to help complete a customer initiated transaction; (2) the customer requests it; or (3) the disclosure is allowed or required by law.
  • Whenever we hire other organizations to provide support services, we will require those organizations to adhere to similar privacy principles.


A copy of this policy will be maintained at each of our branch and loan production offices and will be available to the public upon request.

 

Employees must adhere to JNO’s privacy policies. Employees violating these policies may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.

 

Consumers Opt-Out Right
JNO may disclose consumer information to third parties as described earlier in this notice. Many of these disclosures are beneficial to consumers because they permit goods and services of interest to consumers to be offered to consumers at attractive rates. We strive to give consumers choices about how their data will be used. You have the right to opt-out of (direct us not to make) these disclosures when the consumer information is about you. Of course, there are some disclosures to third parties that are not subject to the opt-out, such as disclosures necessary to effect, administer or enforce a transaction requested by you.

 

If you wish to opt out, simply call our Customer Service Department at 1-866-735-6002. You always have the right to change your mind. If you do not opt out, we will  assume that you have agreed that JNO may use your personal information to determine what goods and services you may be interested in, offer you goods and services that we think meet your needs, disclose your personal information to third parties, and for the other purposes described herein.

 

Permission Marketing
Beyond communications required as part of terms of service, users will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and/or newsletters. Our Accountability to our Privacy Principles
JNO is committed to meeting the highest standards for our privacy program. To that end, we have appointed a senior official, who serves as the company-wide officer with responsibility for the administration and implementation of the JNO privacy program. 


 
JNO, working closely with individual business units, is responsible for:

  • Administering employee/Agents privacy training and employee compliance related to the JNO Customer Privacy Policies;
  • Conducting  periodic assessments of JNO’s  compliance with its Privacy Policies, as well as specific implementation policies and procedures; and
  • Ensuring that JNO actively participates in appropriate privacy activities, including self-regulatory initiatives.

 

Customer Complaints
The Customer Service Department has overall responsibility for dealing with all complaints.All complaints are recorded in our database and our records will include:

  • The date the complaint was received
  • The action required to resolve the complaint
  • The date when the action will be completed.

Intermediate discussions about the complaint will also be recorded.

Any complaint will be acknowledged to the complainant confirming that it is being dealt with in accordance with our Complaints Policy included in JNO’s operations manual, which may be amended from time to time.

We will undertake to investigate any complaint properly and fairly.

We will respond to all complaints within a period of three working days.

Where we find that any work is required or action is needed to resolve the complaint, the work or action will be undertaken in the shortest possible time.

Whenever the Customer Service Department is unable to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of the customer, the complaint will be referred to Senior Management for action.
